Dr. Nick Furchner was born and raised in Reno, NV. He graduated Reno High in 1975. Nick played baseball, volleyball and tennis at Reno High. Just out of high school he found his love for skydiving! Nick attended The University of Reno where he pledged Sigma Nu and played volleyball. Nick made several skydive landings onto the UNR campus. He worked multiply jobs graduating debt free with dual degrees; Biology and Pre-Med in 1981. He decided on Marquette University in Milwaukee due to the proximity to several skydiving drop zones. Nick graduated with his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1985. He returned to Reno and purchased Dr. Karrasch’s dental practice on California Ave. Nick was an excellent dentist with a caring heart. He outgrew that office and built the Sierra Rose office and moved into the new office in 2003.

He cared for his patients as if they were his family, because they were!

Nick donated his dental care to so many, including the Adopt a Vet program, the Northern Nevada Children’s Program, and many others who were without funds, work, a home or just because.

Nick was one of the first in Nevada to use the dental laser technology. He led the way for technology, state of the art office design and many other advanced technologies for the dental community.

Nick was awarded the Mario Gildone Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022 posthumous. He was the creator of this very prestigious award and would pass the award to anyone else but himself. He was a humble, loving, gentle yet strong, athletic, giving, skilled dentist that loved to give back to his community, his family and friends.

He fought the good fight and finished the race and was called home to his eternal home October 22, 2020, one week before his 63rd birthday. He is survived by his devoted wife Amy and many nieces and nephews and other family members, as well as his dental team.
